The positive feeling of new dawns


 I do not mind getting up early in the morning for a business trip by car. Event though it is all dark outside, some nice voice is on the radio already with fresh news or music, and soon I will stop somewhere at a roadside cafeteria for toasted bread with olive oil and tomato spread and a nice cup of warm café con leche.

 Yeah, I know. You can also have that nice breakfast if sleeping in longer or commuting by trains, etc.    

 But what you won’t get is the inspiration of seeing the first rays of light as the sun rises, especially if you are going towards it, going eastwards, towards the proper and inevitable sunrise. Inevitable, but still it is like a new experience every time. Definitely, in the morning East is the preferred direction, darkness cedes, the first weak red, then orange, some blue background, and then the whole of the almighty bright yellow sun is there, above the Mediterranean sea… a couple of hundred kilometres ahead.

 Simple man, simple pleasure. Yes, even if the sunrise happens everyday, millennium after millennium (so far…), it fills me with nice expectations for the day ahead.

And the other way around, going westwards in the evening is also a good injection of good vibrations. Well, at that time I will normally be quite tired after travelling and the normal stress of the working day, but sun set is the irrevocable signal of the end of the day, rest to come, and the joyous expectation of soon being able to hug  my loved ones at home.
